A volume of papers presented to an international seminar held under the sponsorship of the FID, the British Council, the IDRC, and Unesco, and organised by the Referral Centre of the University of Zagreb. Experts from a number of European countries and the USA considered four central themes - user studies, user-friendly systems, training for research, and scientiometrics. The full text of their presentations provides a comprehensive review of techniques of contemporary information research. The experiences of a number of major research projects are used as a basis for discussion of both research problems and improvement of the dissemination and use of research findings. Research into information creation and manipulation has an important future, and this book makes a significant contribution to its definition.
