To date there has been only a limited focus within library and information research programmes on the learning requirements of children with special educational needs, and the present volume draws more detailed attention to this important area of educational provision. Reporting the results of the British Library sponsored project 'Learning Support for Special Educational Needs', the authors assess the needs of children within this group, and on the basis of a series of detailed case studies, they document good practice in meeting those needs, in terms of materials, staffing and strategies - all with the goal of fostering collaboration between subject teachers, learning support staff and librarians in curriculum planning and delivery. Additionally, the study attempts to place school librarianship more clearly within its overall educational context.
